Is your kitchen just a room or the place to bring your family’s dreams alive? by Ross Halliday

We've longed believed that selling fitted kitchens is more than just about demonstrating the features and benefits of the furniture or appliances or other elements contained therein. What we're actually selling clients is a room that meets their dreams and aspirations for them and their family and friends. The dream of somewhere to relax after the kids have gone to bed; the dream of family dinners or weekend dinner parties. Ultimately, we're helping clients bring their dream of life enhancement - that helps them unwind from the daily stresses of normal life - alive.

A new kitchen is the sum of its parts; a room that's used and enjoyed by every family member in the way they want to. For some families the kitchen's an alternative living room; for other's it's where the fridge is found!

And, increasingly as scratch cooking has come back in to fashion, some families are even preparing and cooking meals in them! As my blog 'Joy of Baking' argued, if ever there was a reason as to why kitchens were created it has to be for baking! Whether it's bread, cakes, puddings or anything else that takes your fancy - there can't be anything more that says 'home' than the smell of freshly baked food.

This is why we're proud to announce, in what I believe to be first for any fitted kitchen retailer anywhere in the UK, a new 'recipe of the week' page on our website in association with celebrated baker, artist and author Kathy Santiago and her wonderful 'Everlasting Cakes' recipe book. The recipes contained inside, from new twists on traditional recipes for Scones to the strange sounding boiled fruit cake for Christmas, are being made available each week on our website (http://www.nicholashythe.co.uk/recipe/).

And in today's fast-moving, rapidly expanding mobile world with smartphones and tablet PCs becoming the dominant methods by which the Internet is accessed, we've also designed a wipe-clean fridge sticker complete with its own Quick Response (QR) code to make finding that week's recipe really easy to find.

Looking beyond the physical attributes of a room and understanding the emotional attachment being placed in a new kitchen is what we do best - and bringing our passion for design to meet this emotional need is what really separates us from our High Street and DIY competitors.

So whether your kitchen is primarily used as a second living room, a place to work or for meal preparation, make sure the designer you choose brings the same empathy and passion to the room as you do or face being left with only a functional kitchen that doesn't meet the dreams you had for it.
